How can I tell if my tree is dying?

Sometimes it is difficult to tell if a tree is dying, but here are some things to look out for:

Dead leaves or no leaves when there should be healthy growth
The tree is no longer standing as straight as it was
Excessive amount of broken branches
Bark is falling off the tree
Visible rot or fungus
Unchecked termites and pests
Damaged roots
